Administrative / Biographical History

Capel Gomer began when a group of 47 members of Memorial Baptist Church, Walter Road, Swansea left to form a Welsh Baptist Church. It was built on Willows Place, Swansea, and was called Mount Zion. The chapel was destroyed by enemy action during the Second World War and all the congregation continued to meet in church halls of some of the other local chapels until a new building was built on the site on Willows Place. The new chapel was called Capel Gomer. In c. 2009, after a prolonged period of falling membership, an attempt was made to replant a church there, but in 2015 the chapel was finally closed and the building sold.
