The York Council of Churches, or YCC, is a branch of the World Council of Churches which was founded in 1948. The World Council describes itself as a ‘worldwide fellowship of global, regional and sub-regional, national and local churches seeking unity, a common witness and Christian service.’
Delegates sent from member churches meet every seven or eight years in an Assembly, which elects a Central Committee that governs between Assemblies. A variety of other committees and commissions answer to the Central Committee and its staff. Assemblies have been held since 1948.
In 1991 the YCC held a Celebration of Healing in York Minster and in 1997 they participated in Pilgrim’s Way, a national pilgrimage to commemorate the arrival of St Augustine in England in 597. Today the YCC holds an annual service of witness in York Minster on Good Friday open to Anglicans, Methodists, Baptists, Quakers and other Christian denominations.

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws.

The archive was deposited at the Borthwick Institute in 2000.
