X-Club

Minute books of the society, income and expenditure accounts, membership lists and X-Club Constitution. 1900-1939.

The X-Club was established in 1900 to promote discussion on problems of scientific medicine among the junior members of the medical profession in Glasgow. Membership to the club was all male. Existing Ordinary members were able to propose prospective Ordinary members, subject to their qualifications and election. Honorary membership was conferred on a person of outstanding merit and Emeritus membership was achieved through long term membership to the club or by holding a senior post in Glasgow. An Executive Committee was appointed on an annual basis and consisted of a Secretary and 4 members.

Communications were given by Ordinary members on original work and practices or by reviewing recent knowledge of a particular subject. All Ordinary members were expected to attend the club on a regular basis, participate in discussions, deliver original communications and pay an annual levy to cover expenditure.
