Administrative / Biographical History

Ursula Masson was a senior lecturer in Historical Studies at the University of Glamorgan. A founding member of Swansea Women's History Group, Ursula was involved in the Group's video called 'Smiling and Splendid Women', concerning the miners' strike, and the activities of the Swansea, Neath and Dulais Valley Women's Support Group. Swansea Women's History Group also researched women conscientious objectors and Ursula wrote some articles on Rosalind Rusbridge. A supporter of the Greenham Movement and a member of CND, Ursula attended the 'Embrace the Base' demonstration in 1982. She was involved in the West Glamorgan Equal Opportunities Group which reported on the non compliance to equality legislation in schools. A member of the Neges Bookshop cooperative, Ursula had responsibility for purchasing. She was a member of the Swansea Women's Resource Centre, and also a founding member of the Women's Archive of Wales, serving as Chair for several years. Ursula was also involved in Llafur, the Welsh People's History Society, and was co-editor of the Llafur journal. She died in April 2008.
