Administrative / Biographical History

Captain W. J. Hughes (alive 1931-1967), mariner, from Moelfre, Anglesey, served on the ships Yewbank, Brereton, Wild Rose, Barrhead, Wildfire, Laomedon, Rooke, Elsie Thomas, Primrose, Guelder Rose, Yewhill and Yewmount Jim, and as master of the ships Hubbastone, Monkstone, and the M. V. Richmond Queen and the M. V. Kestor, his first command, in 1937. He served as Temporary Lieutenant, Royal Naval Reserve, 1942-1946, on the ships HMS Barrhead, HMS Wildfire, HMS Laomedon and HMS Rooke. He had two sons, Rodney Hughes and William Vaughan Hughes.

Custodial History

The original papers were loaned by Mr Rodney Hughes to the Archives Department in response to a request for documents for use at an exhibition held at Moelfre in July 1982. They were copied by his permission.
