Administrative / Biographical History

The Royal Naval Auxiliary Service was formed in response to the threat of nuclear attack on UK ports, operating a number of vessels along the coast that were to assist with evacuation in the event of an attack. It was disbanded in 1994 due to budget cuts, and many of its roles taken over by the Maritime Volunteer Service.
