Scope and Content

A collection of correspondence to Niels Vang and notebooks relating to conferences on Biblical themes.

Administrative / Biographical History

Niels Vang was born in 1907 at Kaldbak, north of Tórshavn in the Faroes Islands. Niels was raised as Lutheran, baptised in 1926 and spent most of his life working an preaching with the Brethren. He was well known as a Bible and Sunday School teacher in Tórshavn and elsewhere, and was involved with the building of a Brethren Hall in Kaldbak in 1935.

Niels was educated at the local school, and on leaving worked in a local shop until 1930 when he went to live in Lerwick, Shetland for a year. Whilst in Lerwick he was introduced to the Scofield Bible by Angus Swanson. In 1931 he moved to Klaksvík in the Faroes, and in 1934 became the manager of a local shop, leaving in 1944 to set up his own grocery store in Tórshavn. He died in 1978.

The collection is open to any accredited reader.

The collection includes material which is subject to the Data Protection Act 1998. Under Section 33 of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), The University of Manchester Library (UML) holds the right to process personal data for research purposes. The Data Protection (Processing of Sensitive Personal Data) Order 2000 enables the UML to process sensitive personal data for research purposes. In accordance with the DPA, UML has made every attempt to ensure that all personal and sensitive personal data has been processed fairly, lawfully and accurately. Acquisition Information

The collection was donated to the Christian Brethren Archive at the University of Manchester Library by Johan Vang, the son of Niels Vang in April 2016.

Conditions Governing Use

Photocopies and photographic copies of material in the archive can be supplied for private study purposes only, depending on the condition of the documents.

A number of items within the archive remain within copyright under the terms of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988; it is the responsibility of users to obtain the copyright holder's permission for reproduction of copyright material for purposes other than research or private study.
