Administrative / Biographical History

The fund began in 1891, initially to raise funds for Swansea General Hospital, and then for Singleton Hospital. Formed by a small number of well-known from wealty families in the area, the fund existed to "supplement the work of the hospital". It helped to provide equipment for staff, facilities for patients, and various forms of assistances to their families. They also provided financial assistance for those patients unable to meet the extra costs that arose from their care. The fund was removed from the register of charities on the 11th of March 1988.
