Provisional Committee Minutes of the North West Durham Co-operative Dairies Ltd.

Scope and Content

This bound hardback volume contains minutes of meetings that took place prior to the opening of the Dairies, beginning with the search for a suitable site. In March it was agreed that the new Federal Dairy take over the existing staff from Societies' individual Milk Departments, along with horses and floats.

Annfield Plain is agreed upon as a suitable site for the new Dairy. Tenders are invited for the provision of machinery and in July 1931 the Aluminium Plant and Vessel Co. Ltd put in a successful bid for 7,438-10-0. An Architect is also appointed from the Co-operative Wholesale Society Newcastle. CWS's Building Department is also appointed in October to build the new dairy for the sum of 7,477-5-4. The federation becomes affiliated to the Co-operative Wholesale Society Limited and the Co-operative Union Limited.

There are 2 loose sheets of paper, undated, in the front of this volume on which are handwritten notes relating to the purchase of the land at Annfield Plain and the opening ceremony.
