Records of Briton Ferry Urban District Council (1894-1922), Briton Ferry Local Board of Health (before 1894) and Borough of Neath, Briton Ferry Ward (after 1922), 1872-1999, comprising Clerk's Department records, 1872-1999, including minutes, 1905-1911, attendance register, 1916-1999, circulars and returns, 1872-1922, and general correspondence, 1895-1922; Treasurer's records, 1886-1961, comprising annual statements of account, 1896-1912, 1933-1961, valuation lists and rating records, 1886-1943, and Housing Assisted Scheme rent books, 1910-1942; Surveyor's records, 1894-1922, including report and work books, 1894-1922, correspondence and circulars, 1900-1922, and housing scheme records, 1909-1922; housing repairs report books, 1925-1936; Sanitary Inspectors' records, 1904-1922; Water Engineer's records, 1897-1922; County Medical Officer of Health's records, 1896-1917; General District Rate books, 1900, 1914.

Briton Ferry Urban District Council (UDC), Glamorgan, was established under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1894. The Council comprised councillors and a chairman and initially took over the powers of Briton Ferry Local Board of Health. The Council's responsibilities included sanitary services, sewerage, refuse collection, housing, streets, cemeteries, libraries, parks, controls on buildings such as petrol stations, and licensing of public entertainments. UDCs were administered by a number of committees and by appointed officers including a Clerk, Treasurer, Medical Officer of Health, Surveyor and Sanitary Inspector. Briton Ferry UDC was abolished under the Neath Corporation Act 1922, with the urban district being absorbed by the Borough of Neath.
