Administrative / Biographical History
Philip Salomons was born in 1796 and died in 1867. He was the brother of David Salomons (1797-1873). In 1824 he went to America but returned in 1826 and resumed his British citizenship. He married Emma Montefiore in 1850. He was warden of the New Synagogue from 1843 until 1856 when he succeeded his brother David as representative of the Congregation on the Board of Deputies of British Jews. He was also appointed Sheriff of Sussex in 1852.
