Administrative / Biographical History

The Seignory of Gower and Kilvey was the marcher lordship bounded approximately by the rivers Loughor, Twrch and Tawe, with the addition of the parish of Llansamlet. It served as a coroner's district within the county of Glamorgan, and when Swansea became a county borough in 1890 it became a separate coroner's district. The Gower and Kilvey coroner's district continued to exist until 1954, when it was absorbed by the West Glamorgan district. Charles Joseph Clayton Wilson served as coroner for Gower and Kilvey from 1920 to 1954. He was a partner in Beor, Wilson and Lloyd, solicitors.
