Administrative / Biographical History

The Rev. Thomas Isfryn Hughes (1865 - 1942) ('Ifor Glyn') was a Wesleyan minister. He was born in Clocaenog, Ruthin, Denbighshire, the son of John Hughes and Elizabeth Davies. He started preaching when he was 19, serving as minister at Abergele (1890), Llanfair Caereinion (1891), Rhyl (1893), Tywyn (1895), Coedpoeth (1896), Tregarth (1899), Mynydd Seion, Liverpool (1902), Blaenau Ffestiniog (1905), Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant (1908), Liverpool (1911), Porthmadog (1925), and Beaumaris (1928), retiring to Anglesey in 1931. He married Catherine Jenkins, of Aberdyfi, Merionethshire. His main literary an religious achievement was Esboniad ar epistolau Paul at y Philipiaid a Philemon (Bangor, 1916). He was an author of many articles, under his own name and as 'Ifor Glyn'. He wrote poetry, winning the chair at Rhosllanerchrugog eisteddfod, adjudicated by Gwili. He died at Trearddur Bay, 1942.
