1908 London Olympic Games

When Rome pulled out of hosting the 1908 Olympic Games, William Grenfell, 1st Baron Desborough, Chair of the British Olympic Association, proposed that London should step in. With only two years to organize the event, the 1908 Games utilised existing venues, a tactic which would be repeated in the organization of the 1948 Games. Most notably, the BOA Council co-operated with the organizers of the Franco-British Exhibition to modify the recently constructed White City Stadium.
