Administrative / Biographical History

In 1953 a public meeting was held to discuss the possibility of setting up a community centre in the former Sunday School building belonging to Hebron Chapel in Heol-y-Coed. The Ynystawe and District Community Centre (known as Ty'r Werin) was formally opened by the Mayor of Swansea on September 12th 1953, with the aim of providing a room for the daily use of old people, a venue for evening classes, a public library, and a committee room for local clubs and societies.
