Scope and Content

Button sample albums; illustrated registers of designs; pencil sketches and designs and printed designs. The illustrations depict buttons, buckles, clasps, clips and other dress ornaments with a range of decorative features including flora, fauna, figurative and geometric aspects.

Administrative / Biographical History

The company of John Templeton Ltd was based at 144A Great College Street, London. In the 1930s the directors were J. Frisch, Selwyn Slater and A. J. Templeton. In the 1950s Selwyn Slater took over the running of the company. He designed a range of casein buttons which became known as the Selwyn Slater collection.
