Administrative / Biographical History
The estates of John Halliwell, of Pike House, Blackstone Edge, in Rochdale parish passed to John Beswick in 1771. On his death in 1773, the property passed to his younger brother, Robert Beswicke. The direct male line of the Beswickes failed on the death in 1842 of John Halliwell Beswicke, when the estates passed to his sole daughter, the heir general of Robert Beswicke, Mary Alice Gibson Beswicke.
