Administrative / Biographical History

The Association of Bookmen was formed in October 1943 at a meeting convened by E. Howard Harris and held at the Royal Institution of South Wales, Swansea. Its aim was to promote literary activities in Swansea and south-west Wales, and it flourished during the' 1940s and 1950s when it was active in inviting prominent authors of the period to address the membership. The Association appears to have become defunct during the early 1960s, after the death of its founder in 1961.
