Administrative / Biographical History
The correspondence is in regard to the emperor penguin specimens obtained during the winter journey to the Cape Crozier rookery made by Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers and Apsley Cherry-Garrard during the British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913 (leader Robert Falcon Scott). Richard Assheton began work on the specimens in Britain prior to his death in 1915 when they were returned to the British Museum (Natural History department). Cherry-Garrard had deposited them there on his return from the Antarctic.
