Scope and Content

Volume of research notes collected for a possible treatise on the art of preparing vinous liquors. Notes cover subjects such as ale, alcohol, alchemy, malt and malt liquors, brewing, hops, yeast, casks and sweetening and grapes. Possible created in London in the 19th century as it contains case studies of London breweries and includes historical notes as well as scientific information.

Custodial History

Held in private hands until the volume was passed to the British Records Association in the 1960s. From here it deposited with the Glasgow University Archives who transferred it to the library.
