Administrative / Biographical History

The Swansea and District Metallurgical Society was formed in 1919 at Swansea Technical College in response to the rapid growth of the Metallurgical Department at the college and the world importance of the Swansea district for metallurgical industries. The society provided a forum for the reading and discussion of papers and a means for past students to keep in touch with the department. Visits to nearby works were also arranged. Membership was not just open to students of the department but to anyone engaged in or interested in the practise of metallurgy and its allied subjects.
