MMS/1 comprises the institutional records of the Society as a whole, including rulebooks, annual reports, minute books of the Council and meetings, membership rolls, and financial records. There is also correspondence from the 19th century concerning the relationships of the MMS with the Royal Victoria Gallery, the Royal Manchester Institution, the literary and Philosophical Society, the Manchester Statistical Society, and Owens College. Records relating to the Society's library include the catalogues dating from 1838, and minutes of the Library Committee. Published versions of lectures given to the Society by members and outside speakers can be found in MMS/1/7.
