Administrative / Biographical History

The Real Mackay Strong Ale Co Ltd of Glasgow, Scotland, was set up in October 1948 and started trading in April 1949. The authorised share capital was GBP 100 and the company was a wholly owned subsidiary of Glasgow bottlers Mair & Dougall Ltd. Mair & Dougall were in turn one of two bottling subsidiaries of James Calder & Co (Brewers) Ltd of Alloa, Scotland. The company produced "The Real Mackay Scotch Stout", "Scotch Strong Ale" and "Milk Stout" which were also intended for the export market. The Real Mackay Strong Ale Co Ltd became defunct sometime around 1953 as turnover and profits were very small. For the year 1950 the profits were at GBP 48 18s 9d.
