Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Anne Doddridge lives in Neath. Her photographs show her mother and grandmother. Anne's mother, Muriel Anne Doddridge (neé Howell) married in June 1932, but was widowed only a few months later in August 1932. She is pictured outside her shop in Skewen, which she opened and ran herself. Anne Doddridge's grandmother, Mary Hannah Phillips (neé Selby) was from a well known Neath family who ran a fruiterers business. Her husband had come to Wales from Bideford in Devon, where it is likely he was a farmer. They had seven children, including five sons, four of whom were involved in the family business, and two daughters who were florists. The family lived in Briton Ferry and were Welsh speaking.
