Administrative / Biographical History

The Swansea Medical Society was established in 1876. Its aims were the 'advancement and diffusion of Medical and Surgical Science by holding periodical meetings and the maintenance of an honourable and friendly feeling amongst the members'. The meetings were held at Swansea Hospital on alternate Tuesdays from October to April.

Arrangement

The collection was originally catalogued at University College Library, Swansea, where an interpretation of the original order was made. This system of arrangement has been maintained in producing this catalogue.

Acquisition Information

The records were originally held at The Royal Institution of South Wales, Swansea. From 1966 onwards the records were moved to the library in the University College, Swansea in consignments. They were transferred to West Glamorgan Archive Service in the Spring of 2004.
