Scope and Content

Original and printed artwork by the artist Charles Stewart, who illustrated several of Barbara Leonie Picard's published works. The file contains two original pen and ink sketches by Stewart, mounted for display. Notes on the back of the mounts identify the first as 'Shambellie Wood, 1952. Study of trees used for an illustration for a story, 'The King's Friend', in 'The Lady of the Linden Tree' by Barbara Leonie Picard'; and the second as 'Study of trees by the New Abbey by Kingan's Saw Mill, 1954. Later used for a book jacket.'

The file also contains two calendars designed by Stewart and produced by Mackays of Chatham, one for 1958, inscribed with a note to Picard from Stewart on the reverse, and one for 1970; two printed Christmas cards featuring designs by Stewart, and two hand-made cards featuring original sketches by Stewart; one letter to Picard, from Byron Studios Ltd, regarding Stewart's work; and a publicity flyer for an exhibition of Charles Stewart paintings and drawings held at the Scott Hay Gallery, Langholm, c. 1975.
