Christina Girdwood Pettigrew was born in Cambusnethan on 7 October 1907  . Her father, Gavin Pettigrew, was a fruit-grower. Christina attended the University of Glasgow from 1926-1929  , taking classes in Latin and English in her first year; English (Higher) and Moral Philosophy in her second; and Geography, Social Economics, Political Philosophy and Political Economics in her third and final year. She returned the following year to resit Political Economy and Geography. She graduated with an MA in November 1930  and subsequently became a secretary. She married Andrew Kilgour (BEd 1953) in July 1940. Christina died in Hamilton on 13 February 1999  .
