Administrative / Biographical History

The Llanelly Associated Tinplate Companies Limited registered as a public company in April 1939. It was formed in order to take over the operations of a number of tinplate companies after it was proposed that they merge in 1938. These companies operated works which included Llanelly, Ashburnham, Kidwelly, Old Castle, Morlais, Teilo and Western. Old Lodge Tinplate Company Limited was acquired later in 1941. In 1947 the Ashburnham, Old Castle, Western and Teilo tinplate works were transferred to The Steel Company of Wales Limited. The Old Lodge works had been permanently closed in 1946 and the Kidwelly works dismantled in 1946 and the site and plant offered for sale in 1947. Morlais had been dismantled in 1946.
