Administrative / Biographical History

The British Whaling Exploration, 1892-1893 (Captains Fairweather, Robertson, Davidson and Davidson) sailed from Dundee in this pioneering whaling reconnaissance. The four ships Balena, Active, Diana and Polar Star also carried scientific staff including William Speirs Bruce and Donald. The voyage covered the Falkland Islands, the Joinville Island group and northern Trinity Peninsular.

Note

Thomas Robertson who captained the Active on which Donald sailed later captained the Scotia during the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, 1902-1904 (leader William Speirs Bruce).
