Administrative / Biographical History
This company was incorporated in July 1889, and like the Central African Mining Company, the first subscribers and directors were also part of African Lakes Company Ltd. The directors were Frederick L M Moir, John Stephen, John W Muir and William Stevenson. The Memorandum and Articles of Association also incorporates an agreement with the African Lakes Company Ltd and Charles Antonieski "to prospect for and work in any way whatever all gold and/or other metals and other products in Nyassaland and the surrounding district." The Scottish Exploration Company were to make over to Mr Antonieski £12,000 of the £15,666 fully paid up shares to carry out the prospecting work. At the Annual General Meeting in Oct 1890 the directors had little to report: Mr Austin had been sent to undertake prospecting operations, but there were no "recent advices" from him. After setting out for Nyassaland, he returned under a medical certificate of ill health to the UK for some months. He had subsequently returned to Africa, but no word had been received.
