Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In 1873 76 members of Bethesda Chapel, High Street, Swansea, formed a separate church in the lower part of the town. They first met in the Albert Hall, Swansea, and the first building in Walter Road was opened in 1875. The first minister of the church was the Rev. F. C. White. In 1877 47 members left to form the Welsh Baptist Church, later known as Capel Gomer. In 1992, the church on Walter Road was demolished and a new chapel built on the same site with flats above it. In 2017, following a decline in membership, the decision was taken to close the church.
