Glais opened as a Board School on 9 January 1882, with Thomas Powell as the first Head Teacher. The school was taken over by the Council on 29 September 1903 and later by Swansea Education Authority on 9 Nov. 1918. In April 1930 in accordance with the Education Committee, the Infants Department fell under the control of the Head Teacher of the Mixed Department. Glais became a Primary School sometime around 1979.
