Administrative / Biographical History

William Smith Anderson (1877-1929), sometimes know as 'Jock' Anderson, was born in Kilsyth on 21 Nov 1877 and a few years later his family moved to Kirkintilloch. On leaving school he was apprenticed to a firm of ironfounders, Messrs. Cameron and Robertson of Kirkintilloch, eventually becoming their commercial traveller. Much of his business was in England and after marrying Daisy McGlashan in September 1909 the family moved to Hexham, Northumberland.

Anderson attended GSA from 1897-1901 winning several Haldane Bursaries. From 1909 onwards he painted landscapes and street scenes in watercolour and oils. He also painted still life and interiors.
