Administrative / Biographical History

Brigadier Gerald Hilary Cree (1905-1998), CBE (1946), DSO (1945), was educatedat Kelly College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissionedin the West Yorkshire Regiment, 1924 and served in the King's African Rifles,1931-1936. He saw further service in Palestine, East Africa, Abyssinia, WesternDesert, Iraq and Burma, 1938-1945, commanding the 2nd Battalion, West YorkshireRegiment, 1942-1944 and the 1st Battalion, 1946-1948. He was Commander, 25th(East African) Infantry Brigade, 1944-1945 and was made Brigadier, 1953. Heserved as Commander, 127th (East Lancs) Infantry Brigade (TA), 1953-1956,Colonel, The West Yorkshire Regiment, 1956-1957 and Colonel, PWO Regiment ofYorkshire, from 1960 till his retirement in 1970. In 1945 he married Joan AgnesEden, with whom he had one daughter.
