Papers of the Mellish Family of Hodsock, Nottinghamshire, 1220-19th Century

Scope and Content

The papers in this accrual relate very closely to the papers in the core collection. There are a significant number of letters to Charles Mellish (1737-1797) concerning political matters, including further letters relating to the American War of Independence. There are also several items relating to the education of Joseph Charles Mellish at Eton, including various verses in Latin.

Further deeds, estate papers, legal, literary, antiquarian and political papers complement related material in the core collection listed at Me.

Administrative / Biographical History

These papers form a part of the larger estate archive of the Mellish family. In subject matter and date, they complement groups of papers in the core Mellish archive, separately catalogued as Me. See the collection level record (Me) for details about the Mellish family and their papers.
