Three volumes of photographs of Swansea and surrounding area by Derek Gabriel. The photographs were intended for publication as 'Lovely Ugly Swansea' Parts 1-3 although they were never actually published. Derek Gabriel was brought up on Spring Terrace, Sandfields, Swansea. He was a professional photographer, formerly employed by Swansea University. He published several books including 'The Great Pub Crawl (The search for an A-Z): A story of Swansea Pubs' with Ray Marshall and 'Photographic Memories of Jazz in Swansea'. His interest in photography began when his father taught him to develop films in his darkroom under the stairs.

The photographic material came in to the Archive Service sorted into volumes. This system of arrangement has been maintained and the photographs listed in detail within those volumes.
