Soroptimist International is a world-wide volunteer service organisation for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. The name Soroptimist is derived from the Latin soror (sister) and optima (best). Soroptimist International of Swansea (SI Swansea) is an established and successful organisation. Soroptimists are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide. SI Swansea received its charter in 1933 and celebrated its 75 anniversary in 2008. SI Swansea members meet each month to discuss projects and the business of the running of the club. SI Swansea commits to helping women in the local area by charity fundraising and social projects to promote good service in the community and friendship.
