2185/LEB/5/2 Two manuscript copies of scores of Purcell's 'Distressed Innocency; or the Princess of Persia Overture', and portions of Amphitryon, written and annotated in several hands, one of which is Lucy Broadwood's. One score is bound, the other written on loose sheets. On the cover, Lucy has given her address as 52 St George's Square, [where she lived until 1899]. In 1896, Lucy corresponded with Edward Dannreuther concerning her edition of Amphitryon and sent him a copy of her score, which he annotated and returned, but which has become separated from its covering letter (see -/1/45 & 84). nd [1896 x 1899]

2185/LEB/5/5 82 unbound illustrated pages from The Musical Entertainer, vol.II, engraved by George Bickham jr contained in a packet annotated by Lucy Broadwood: 'Bickham's Musical Entertainer, vol.II'. The pages are not of a uniform size. A printed note at the foot the music to 'The Invitation to Mira' reads 'according to ye late Act, 6 June 1738'. [According to the British Library catalogue, The Musical Entertainer was a 2 volume anthology of popular songs by such composers and poets as Vanburgh, Handel, Corelli, Purcell, Arne and Pepusch, first published in 1737 (2nd ed. 1740)]. The hand is not identified but in some cases a date has been given for the copy together with the place where copied/composed, including Inholmes, Pines Hill, Blagdon, Wargrave. [Originally found alongside other manuscript music books of the Fuller Maitland family (-/5/11-13); the house names given above were all residences of the Fuller Maitland family during the 19th cent.] c.1847-1850
