Administrative / Biographical History

The Educational Colloquium was founded in 1954 as an association of Bachelor of Education (EdB) graduates of the University of Glasgow, Scotland. The first meeting was attended by 91 graduates with a further 90 sending their apologies.

The objects of the Colloquium were to keep members in touch with one another, both professionally and socially, and to provide opportunities for continuation of members' educational and psychological studies. Membership was open to all Bachelor or Education graduate of the University of Glasgow. By 1967, there were 276 members.

A committee governed the Colloquium consisting of a chairman, secretary, treasurer and 6 other committee posts.

The Educational Colloquium was to meet three times a year, in January, April and for informative professional talks and social contact. Special interest groups were also established which met more frequently to discuss specialist areas such as research, moral education, and study of recent educational and psychological literature.

The Colloquium also administered the William Boyd Fund which presented a prize to the most distinguished Glasgow EdB graduate who graduated that year and also provided small grants to Master of Education students to undertake research.

The Colloquium was still meeting in 2009.
