John Macdonald (1841-1879)

John Macdonald was born in 1841, the son of Alexander Macdonald of Lyndale, Isle of Skye. He was educated at Glasgow and at Paris, gaining an M.D. from Glasgow in 1862. He became a Licentiate of the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons in 1862 and a Fellow in 1863. Following qualification, he settled in Buenos Aires, joining the Argentine Army. He performed outstanding work in the yellow fever outbreak at Buenos Aires in 1871 and was twice struck down by fever himself. With his health irretrievably damaged, he came back to the United Kingdom in October 1879 and died on the Isle of Skye on 7th December 1879.

Reginald N Macdonald (1877-1953)

Reginald Norman Macdonald was born in Buenos Ayres and studied medicine at Anderson's College, Glasgow, gaining the Triple Qualification in 1903. He subsequently became Surgeon Superintendant for the Transvaal Government Chamber of Mines Importation Agency. By 1911 he had returned to Scotland and lived in Argyll Street, Oban, later moving to Salen, Isle of Mull.
