Administrative / Biographical History

Rhyndwyclydach was originally one of the divisions of the parish of Llangyfelach. Rhyndwyclydach Parish Council was established following the Local Government Act 1894, and was one of the constituent parishes of Pontardawe Rural District Council. The Council included Clydach, Gellionen and Trebanos. It took over responsibilities from the parish vestry meetings and was involved in protecting footpaths and rights of way, as well as establishing Forge Fach public swimming pool, Trebanos Park and Clydach Community Hall. In 1974, Rhyndwyclydach Parish Council was abolished and became Clydach Community Council. On local government reorganisation in 1996, the boundary between Neath Port Talbot and Swansea was put through the communities of Clydach and Ynysymond and the community boundaries were redrawn. The northern part of Clydach was lost to Mawr and Pontardawe, while the southern part, augmented with half of Ynysymond, made the new Clydach Community Council.
