Administrative / Biographical History
I P Clarke & Co Ltd, thread manufacturers, Leicester, England was incorporated with limited liability in June 1907 , to acquire the business of I P Clarke & Co. The registered office was at Belgrave Thread Mills, Leicester. In 1934 , Associated Thread Sales Ltd, selling agents, Leicester, was appointed as the company's sole selling agent. In 1936 the company converted to a private company. In 1936, the company transferred their shares in Associated Thread Sales Ltd to Needlewoman Ltd, textile manufacturer, London, England. In the same year, they bought shares in Clark Thread Co, thread manufacturers, Newark, New Jersey, USA, the Rhode Island branch of J & P Coats Ltd, thread manufacturers, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland and United Thread Mills Ltd, thread manufacturers, Glasgow, Scotland. In 1937 the company terminated their contract with Associated Thread Sales Ltd. In 1951 and 1954 the company sold their business in the United Kingdom and all other parts of the world as a going concern to J & P Coats Ltd. In 2002, I P Clarke & Co Ltd was still an active as a holding company, based at Stockley Park, Uxbridge, England.
