Administrative / Biographical History

Hatchards Ltd was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1956  to acquire the business of Collsack Ltd , booksellers, London, England. Hatchards Ltd was a subsidiary of William Collins, Sons & Co Ltd , publishers, Glasgow, Scotland, and acted as a London-based bookstore for their publications. In 1971 the shop on Piccadilly, London, was employing 65 people rising to 90 people by 1977. At some point around 1990  , William Collins Sons & Co Ltd sold the bookstore and the company became registered as William Collins G(XIV) Ltd . This company was dissolved in 1996  . In 2003, the Hatchards store continued to trade on Piccadilly and was owned by HMV Media Group plc, London.
