Henry Lewis was born 2 April 1881 in Llangyfelach, near Swansea. He served in Palestine during the First World War with the Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. He subsequently settled in the Rhondda where he became the Vicar of Ton Pentre. During the Second World War he acted as an air raid warden
