William Gilbertson was a leading citizen in Pontardawe and the founder of Messrs. William Gilbertson & Company Limited. Arthur Gilbertson was High Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1892. He also built the Glanryd House of Pontardawe. Their eldest son, Francis William Gilbertson (1873-1929) married Isabel Francis de Winton Thomas (1869-1955) in 1896. She was the eldest daughter of Illtyd Thomas of Glanmor. Francis was the first President of the University College of Swansea 1920-1929. Their ninth son was Charles Geoffrey Gilbertson (1884-1963). Ellen's mother was Edith Moore-Gwyn (nee Jephson of Ireland). His cricket team was active in 1922-1931. Before moving to Broadlands House, Bridgend in 1950, the family lived in Gelligron House, Pontardawe, since 1908. Their son, Arthur Geoffrey Gilbertson (1913-1991) was President of The Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, Priory for Wales for the Pontypridd area in 1952 and was Sheriff of Glamorgan in 1970.
