Administrative / Biographical History

The Glasgow University Motorcycle Club existed between 1930 and 1937 and was founded by members of the Faculty of Engineering. Supported by John Dewar Cormack, Regius Professor of Civil Engineering and Dr J C Morrison, its main members, and their bikes, were Alan Davies (New Imperial), Billy Mitchell (Velocette), Tommy Hunter (Scott) and Ron Parkin (Cotton JAP). The Motorcycle Club took part in competitions at Varsity and Scottish level. The main competitions of the year were the Cormack Quaich Trial and the open scramble held annually at Drumclog Moor, near Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Other events in which various members competed were trials, scrambles, hill climbs and sand racing.
