By 1864 the company was in the wholesale business with headquarters in St Enoch Square, Glasgow. In 1876 Donald McDonald Teacher established the London end of the business as Wylie Teacher & Co. In 1884 the Teacher's Highland Cream label was registered and in 1886 their Manchester Office was established. By 1903 there were 16 countries on the Teacher's export list and by 1937 they were the market leaders in the USA. In 1948 Teacher (Distillers) Ltd floated as a public company. In 1988 the interests of Teachers, George Ballantine & Son, Stewart and Son of Dundee and Hiram Walker & Sons (Scotland) were brought together to form Allied Distillers Limited, a subsidiary of the company known since 1994 as Allied Domecq plc.
