Cassette tape containing a recording of Barry Fagg, Principal Planning Officer, Swansea City Council, regarding the redevelopment of the Lower Swansea Valley, responding to written questions put to him by Dr Rosemary D. F. Bromley of the Geography Department of Swansea University. Also on the tape, beginning around 21 minutes on side 2, is the latter part of a recording of a Horizon programme by Paul Stirling relating to the redevelopment of the Lower Swansea Valley (LSV). Also includes list of the questions that were put to him. These questions were as follows: 1. How far, if at all, did the Atkins Report of 1974 influence the subsequent planning and redevelopment of the LSV? 2. If its impact was negligible, why was this the case? 3. Which plan was in force prior to the Interim Planning Statement, and why was it considered necessary to replace it with the 1975 plan? 4. Who was involved in drawing up the IPS? 5. The IPS proposes industrial land use north of the railway and Forest Park to the south. Why were these particular land uses chosen for those areas? Was there any dispute over the choice of these land uses? 6. After the publication of the IPS plans for an Industrial Park Lake were introduced. How and why was this decision made? 7. Also since the publication of the IPS it has been decided to retain industry in the Morfa Road area. Why was this decision made? 8. What have been the principal determinants of the rate of redevelopment of the LSV since 1974? 9. What have been the principal obstacles to the redevelopment of the LSV? 10. Since 1974, which people (in and outside Swansea) have been the key figures in the redevelopment of the LSV? How would you rank them in order of importance and why? 11. In which period since 1961 has most been achieved in the redevelopment of the LSV? 12. Do any particular years or events since 1961 stand out as having key significance in the redevelopment of the valley? 13. What might local authorities in other areas with derelict land problems learn from the LSV case? 14.
