Papers of George Gissing and his family comprise: ten letters from George Gissing to members of his family (GRG/1/1/1); seventeen letters from George Gissing to other individuals (GRG/1/1/2); nine letters to George Gissing (GRG/1/1/3); a single letter from Algernon Gissing, brother of George, to Tom Bedford (GRG/1/1/4); and manuscript items such as pages from George Gissing's diary, an essay on poetry by George Gissing, manuscript verse, a draft of the unfinished novel Veranilda, the commonplace book of George's father, Thomas Waller Gissing, an account of an Easter ramble, a publisher's agreement, and a typescript copy of Alfred Gissing's article Gissing's Unfinished Romance (GRG/1/2).
