The centenary was marked by the setting up of the Lister Centenary Committee and an appeal fund for the building of extensions to  University of Glasgow , Scotland, premises, including the provision of additional halls of residence for students. The celebrations culminated in events held between 3-5 April  1967  hosted by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow marking the publication of Lister's work on the Antiseptic treatment of wounds.
